A fun activity on a nice day is a visit to the city beach at DOT. At this hidden oasis in Groningen, you can soak up the sun, relax on the sand, take a dip in the water, and hang out with friends and family. It’s the perfect outing for a beautiful summer day and it’s completely free.

Come pet the animals at the petting zoo

Tucked away among the trees and bushes in the heart of Stadspark lies one of Groningen’s most relaxing spots. At the Stadspark petting zoo, the animals roam freely around the grounds, and there’s a large playground where children can play to their heart’s. You can visit for free every day to get a close-up look at the animals and pet them.

Relax in the heart of the city

Another hidden gem in Groningen is the Prinsentuin. Right in the heart of the city, near the Martini Tower, you’ll find yourself in a peaceful green oasis. Within its high walls, you can stroll past roses, herbs, and beautiful tree-lined paths. The garden is open to the public and completely free to visit.

See Groningen from its highest point

Kardinge is about a 10-minute drive from downtown. Here you’ll find the highest point in the entire province of Groningen: the Kardingebult. At 30 meters above sea level, it offers a stunning view of the city and the Ommeland. Several hiking trails and even a mountain bike trail lead to the summit.
