Groningen may not be known for it, but there are indeed beautiful tulip fields to be found in the province. The advantage is that, unlike the more famous flower-growing regions, it’s not nearly as crowded here. No hordes of tourists and no flashy cell phones all around you.
The flower season runs from late March to early May. It begins in March with the crocuses, followed by the daffodils and hyacinths. Finally, the tulips emerge from the ground, and from mid-April through early May, the fields are ablaze with color. This year, the fields are expected to be at their most beautiful in mid-April.

Let’s face it, there’s nothing more beautiful than all those colorful tulip fields against a clear blue sky. Whether you’re looking for a moment of peace in nature or just want to snap some impressive photos.
In Groningen, most of the tulip fields are located in the northwest of the province and in the Johannes Kerkhovenpolder. For 2026, these are the most beautiful locations: Uithuizermeeden & Zijldijk, Kloosterburen & Hornhuizen, De Westpolder, and the Reiderwolderpolder. You’ll want to visit them all. On the other hand, it’s also great fun to go for a walk or bike ride along the various tulip fields. Let yourself be surprised by the colors of the North!
The Rotary Club Het Hogeland has put together some lovely routes through the tulip fields of the Hogeland. On Saturday, April 18, 2026, you can walk, bike, or drive through the beautiful, colorful Groningen countryside, where the tulips are in full bloom. You can choose a route of 10, 20, 30, or 40 kilometers. The cycling route is 35 kilometers long, and the motorcycle/car tour is even 65 kilometers long. There are places to eat and drink at a few spots along the routes. The starting point for all routes is at Kruize Bloembollen in Uithuizermeeden, after which you continue along the routes through the beautiful tulip fields. If you’d like to sign up for one of the routes, you can visit Rotary Uithuizen.
