About Stadspark

The Stadspark in Groningen is a large park of approximately 140 hectares on the southwest side of the city. It is a municipal monument. It was laid out at the beginning of the twentieth century on the initiative of the Groningen industrialist Jan Evert Scholten.

The construction started in 1913 and took about 13 years: The park was officially opened in 1926. As a tribute to Scholten, a monument has been placed on Concourslaan, a prominent place in the park.

The park is decorated in an English landscape style. It is excellent to take a walk, but you can also find a petting zoo and a large trotting track in the park. From time to time horse races are still organized here. In the summer months you can also enjoy regularly organized events at the park.
