On this city walk you will pass the most beautiful sights and buildings in the centre of Groningen.

Over City walk through central Groningen

The walk starts at the Groninger Museum. Right opposite you can see the beautiful station building (well worth a look inside too!). The route takes you past a number of sights, including the Groninger Museum, the Scheepvaartmuseum, the A-kerk, the University of Groningen and the Martinitoren. The Forum, the Pepergasthuis and the Oosterpoort are also on the route.

Route

Starting point: Groninger Museum.
Walk straight ahead down the Fietsbrug.
Turn left onto the Ubo Emmiussingel.
At the roundabout, keep going to the Praediniussingel. Here you can see the Academie Minerva.
Continue towards the Museumstraat. Here you follow the path along the Kleine der A.
Make a turn to the right onto the Brugstraat. Here you can see the Noordelijk Scheepvaartmuseum and, a little further on, the A-kerk.
Go via the Akerkhof and continue to the left to the Akerstraat. Here you can see the Der Aa-theater. Continue to the right through the Grote Kromme Elleboog.
Make a turn to the left onto the Oude Kijk in ’t Jatstraat. Here you walk past the Universiteitsmuseum.
When you reach the first street, turn right onto the Broerstraat. This is where the University of Groningen is located. At the end of this street, turn right onto the Oude Boteringestraat.
Then turn left along the Grote Markt. Follow this path all the way to the Martinitoren. Along the way you will pass the Stadhuis (town hall).
At the end of the path you will find the Martinikerk. You can also see the Vindicat building.
Turn left and walk around the church. Here you will find the Martinikerkhof.
At the Gardepoort, turn left onto the Singelstraat. Follow it all the way to the end. Then turn right onto the Sint Jansstraat. Here you can see the GRID Grafisch museum.
At the Martinikerkhof, turn left again onto the Popkenstraat. This is where the Forum stands. Walk past it and then turn left onto the Nieuwe markt. At the end of the street, turn right along Achter de Muur.
Turn right onto the Peperstraat. Here you will find the Pepergasthuis. Then follow the Kleine Peperstraat and bear right onto the Gedempte Kattendiep.
Just before the path continues to the Zuiderdiep, turn left onto the Rademarkt. Here you will find the police station. Continue to the Verlengde Oosterstraat, past the Sint Jozefkathedraal.
Here you turn left straight away, onto the Radesingel. At the end, turn right onto the Trompstraat. Cross the Trompbrug. Here you can see the Oosterpoort.
Follow the Trompsingel to the Zuiderpark. You will eventually come out on the Stationsweg. This is the end point.
