Groningen’s Grote Markt will soon undergo a large-scale redesign. The buses disappear from the central square, creating space to redesign the square. The new layout should make the Grote Markt more attractive to pedestrians.
There will remain space for cyclists on the square; there will be two north-south routes across the square. The new Grote Markt will be a place where it is nice to meet and where it is pleasant to stay. This will include both public and commercial seating, play elements, water and greenery.
The first work will start in the first half of 2022, and the new Grote Markt should be completely finished in 2023.
