A quiet walk through a beautiful stretch of nature just outside the city centre. This walking route goes through the nature reserve near Kardinge. You can extend the walk to 8 kilometres if you fancy a longer one.
This route takes you past lovely grasslands and marshes. It also follows the water, then continues through woods full of birds, insects and cattle, such as the Beijumerbos and the Plukbos. Along the way you’ll pass the Sportpark and, finally, the Kardingeplas. A tip: take a look around the ecological neighbourhood ‘Drielanden’. This interesting, quiet neighbourhood has three parts: Waterland, Zonland and Mooiland. The focus is on protecting the environment and nature.
Starting point: the P+R Transferium Kardinge.
Walk straight ahead up the Kardingeheuvel. You get a great view over the city from here.
Turn right and walk back down the hill towards Garsthuizemaar.
Turn left. At the crossing, turn right towards Sauwerdermaar. Follow this path all the way along the Pluktuin. You’ll also pass the Pitch & Putt golf course.
At the end of this path you’ll pass Sportpark Kardinge.

Turn right into the Beijurmerbos. Keep walking until you reach the Oosterweg, and follow this all the way to Noordijkerweg.
Turn right here, along the Kardingemaar. You’ll see the Kardinge nature and recreation area. You also walk past the ecological neighbourhood ‘Drielanden’.
At the end of this neighbourhood, turn left into the woodland. This is where you’ll find the Wijkpark. Follow the woodland path until you see the water. Here you turn left and go around the water.
Stay in the woodland by walking to the left. Here too you walk around the woodland until you cross over to the grazing area.
Walk straight ahead for a short way, then turn left over the little bridge. Keep following this path.
