Groningen can look forward to an evening that music lovers of all ages will be talking about for years to come. In 2027, TOTO will celebrate their fiftieth anniversary, and they’ll be marking the occasion in our Stadspark. The legendary band is set to take our city by storm with a show that brings together five decades of hits, musical mastery and unforgettable melodies. Expect an evening packed with songs you’ve known all your life, now performed live at our very own racecourse.
TOTO began in 1977 as a collaboration between renowned session musicians and went on to become a band with a sound all of its own and a vast international repertoire. In the 1980s, the group made their definitive breakthrough with albums such as *Toto IV*, *Isolation* and *The Seventh One*. Songs such as ‘Africa’, ‘Rosanna’ and ‘Hold the Line’ became classics – the sort of songs you recognise within two notes. Toto IV even won six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for ‘Rosanna’.
Fifty years on, that music is still very much alive. ‘Africa’ has now been streamed more than two billion times on Spotify, and ‘Hold the Line’, ‘I’ll Be Over You’ and ‘Georgy Porgy’ are also attracting new listeners every day. In the Stadspark, long-standing fans will soon be standing side by side with younger generations who have discovered the band through streaming, all singing along at the top of their voices.
The current line-up is led by guitarist and singer Steve Lukather and singer Joseph Williams. They are joined by Warren Ham (wind instruments, percussion and vocals), John Pierce (bass), Keith Carlock (drums), Dennis Atlas (keyboards and vocals) and Rai Thistlethwayte (keyboards and vocals). Following a sold-out show at the Gelredome in 2025, they will bring their 50th Anniversary tour to the Summerstage stage in our Stadspark in 2027. There’s no better way to celebrate such an anniversary than with a show that pulls out all the stops, and the fact that it’s taking place in Groningen makes it all the more special.
The TOTO show is a collaboration between MOJO and SPOT Groningen and forms part of Summerstage, a series of large-scale concerts taking place in the Stadspark at the start of summer. The first edition in 2025 brought acts such as Neil Young, The Teskey Brothers and Acda en De Munnik to our city. In 2026, Snow Patrol, Kraantje Pappie and Mumford & Sons followed. As a result, Summerstage has quickly established itself as a major, permanent fixture on the Dutch concert scene, right in the heart of Groningen.
That trend will continue in 2027. In addition to TOTO, Robbie Williams will also be performing at the Stadspark in July. He’s known as one of the greatest showmen in the world of pop, with a long string of hits, a loyal global fan base, and the talent to get an entire stadium—or a full racetrack—singing along. With two such big names on the lineup, the summer of 2027 is one to circle on your calendar.
