The Bevrijdingsfestival takes place on Bevrijdingsdag. The Liberation Day (Bevrijdingsdag) was declared a national holiday in 1990. It serves as a way to remember and celebrate the end of the occupation by Nazi Germany during World War II. After the liberation in 1945 it was celebrated every five years, but now it takes place annually. This year we celebrate 75 years of freedom in the Netherlands. The festival is not only about music, but also focuses on topics like freedom, democracy and human rights. Furthermore every year artists are chosen to be the “Ambassadeurs of Freedom”.
