As soon as temperatures rise and the sun starts to shine more often, Groningen’s rooftop terraces open up. They’re the perfect spot to relax on a sunny day. High above the streets, you’ll find a surprising variety of rooftop terraces—places where the sun lingers just a little longer, where the breeze keeps you cool, and where you can enjoy stunning views of the city. To make it easy for you, we’ve compiled a list of the best rooftop terraces in Groningen. That way, you’ll know exactly where to go this summer.
For example, there’s BOOVN, where you can spend hours watching the sunset and soaking up the unique beach vibe. Sink into one of the lounge sets and order a refreshing drink while you enjoy a warm spring or summer day. BOOVN opens on May 8 at 4:00 PM, and every Friday after that starting at 5:00 PM. At the Forum, you’ll find Bar Bistro NOK, a spot with a stunning panoramic view of the city. In the summer, the rooftop terrace at Forum opens, and you can visit starting May 10, weather permitting. There’s also a DJ who regularly adds to the atmosphere on sunny days. Access to the rooftop is free, even if you don’t dine there; in the summer, the rooftop is open until 9:45 PM.

At The Happy Traveller, you can also enjoy the stunning view of the city with a drink in hand. This unique rooftop terrace is decorated in Ibiza style. With a tropical cocktail and the sun on your face, you’ll feel like you’re in a warm vacation destination—right in the heart of Groningen. But it’s also a great place in the winter: the rooftop terrace is then transformed into a cozy winter wonderland. You can visit here year-round from Thursday through Saturday from 3:00 PM to midnight and on Sundays from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. It’s also possible to organize your events or gatherings at this unique location. 
Cappuvino is definitely another must-visit on this list. Located right in the heart of downtown, with a view of the Vismarkt, this rooftop terrace is the perfect spot to escape the hustle and bustle below. Enjoy a great espresso or a delicious pinot grigio while taking in the city’s lively atmosphere. The rooftop terrace has been open since late March; due to weather conditions, its opening is assessed on a daily basis.

At Martinus Brewery, you’re welcome on the rooftop terrace every Friday starting at 3:30 PM and every Saturday starting at 1:00 PM. In this unique industrial building on Kostersgang, all kinds of specialty beers are brewed on the ground floor. So, in the mood to enjoy a good glass of beer with a view? Then the rooftop terrace at Martinus Brewery is the perfect spot.
