Groningen may not be known for it, but there are indeed beautiful tulip fields to be found in the province. The advantage is that, unlike the more famous flower-growing regions, it’s not nearly as crowded here. No hordes of tourists and no flashy cell phones all around you. Just enjoy the peace, the open space, and a sea of color.
From late March to early May, the flower season is in full swing. It begins in March with crocuses gently poking through the soil, the first sign that spring has truly arrived. Next, the daffodils and hyacinths begin to bloom, spreading their fragrance across the open Groningen landscape. And finally, the tulips emerge from the ground: from mid-April through early May, the flowers fill the fields with color. For 2026, the fields are expected to be at their most beautiful in mid-April.
The tulip season in Groningen is therefore not only a visual spectacle, but also an experience for all the senses. The fresh air, the scent of blooming flowers, and the expansive landscape make a visit to Groningen’s tulip fields a truly special experience.
