Every year on 28 August, the Groningens Ontzet festival celebrates the liberation of Groningen in 1672, but with a contemporary twist, featuring a festival packed with culture, music and community activities.

During the festival, Groningens Ontzet offers a varied programme for all ages at various locations across the city. A colourful parade featuring historical elements winds its way through the city centre, followed by live performances on several stages throughout the city and a horse show. Local bands and international artists perform a range of musical genres, whilst food trucks and local eateries serve Groningen specialities.

This festival strengthens community ties and welcomes visitors to experience Groningen’s vibrant atmosphere.
