Privacy statement

8 February 2019

Discover Groningen does everything it can to protect your privacy. We comply with data protection law, which means your data is safe and is always used properly. In this privacy statement we explain what Discover Groningen does with the information we learn about you through our website https://discovergroningen.com/en/.

If you have any questions, or if you want to know exactly what we keep on record about you, feel free to contact us at info@discovergroningen.com.

Statistics and profiling
We keep anonymous statistics about how our website is used, for example with Google Analytics. We use these statistics to improve our website, so that we only show relevant information and make the site easier to use. Think of improving the mobile version or making frequently read articles easier to find.

Alongside anonymous statistics, we also collect personal data. We only do this with your consent. We may combine this data to learn more about you. Of course, we will respect your privacy at all times. If you do not want us to use this data, you can always let us know.

What information do we collect? We collect the following personal data: your first and last name, telephone number, email address, the name of your organisation, field of work and sector. This data is only collected when you fill in and submit one of the forms on our website. We keep this information for at least one year, unless you ask us to delete it.

Advertisements
Our website only shows advertisements for our own products and services, and not for third parties. We look at whether people find these interesting, and we use this information to offer only relevant or interesting advertisements and offers in the future.

Sharing with other companies or organisations
We do not share your personal data with third parties without your explicit consent, unless this is necessary to provide our service or we are legally required to do so (for example, if the police demand it when a crime is suspected).

We work together with certain companies. These partners may therefore receive your personal data. This is necessary to deliver what you have requested on our website. These companies are obliged to treat your data confidentially. We make agreements with these companies about the processing of personal data. These agreements are recorded in what is known as a data processing agreement.

Retention period
We do not keep your personal data for longer than necessary for the purpose for which it was received. If you ask us to delete your personal data, we will remove it from our database by the end of the month in question at the latest.

Cookies
Our website uses cookies. Cookies are small files in which we can store information, so that you do not have to fill it in again each time. We can also use them to see that you are visiting us again. We do not keep cookies for longer than the law prescribes and than is strictly necessary for their purposes.

When you visit our online service for the first time, we show a notification explaining cookies. We will ask for your agreement to the use of these cookies. The cookies concerned are the following:

Technical or functional cookies: we place functional cookies to make our website work properly. The law does not require consent for placing these cookies. They are cookies that make sure preferences are saved, information is remembered when you go to another subpage, login details are stored, the website is displayed properly on your screen, your consent to the placing of cookies is remembered, misuse can be detected, and data is remembered for any ordering process.

Analytical cookies: we use analytical cookies from Google Analytics, so that Google can give us insight into how our website is used. We try to use this information to keep improving our website. We only collect anonymous information through Google Analytics and have Google anonymise IP addresses. This means we cannot trace you personally through these cookies. We have concluded a data processing agreement with Google, which sets out strict rules on what they may keep on record. We do not allow Google to use the Analytics information obtained for other Google services. However, Google may provide this information to third parties if Google is legally required to do so, or insofar as these third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. You can find more information about data processing by Google Analytics in the Privacy Policy of Google and in the Privacy Policy of Google Analytics.

Other cookies: besides the functional and analytical cookies, we also use cookies from companies such as Google, Facebook, Linkedin, Hotjar and Zopim. Among other things, these cookies make sure you do not keep seeing the same advertisements, that the advertisements you see from us on social media websites match your interests, and that we know how effective our advertisements are and can improve them. These cookies are only placed with your consent. During your first visit to our website you will be asked to accept the cookies. These cookies are only placed once you have agreed.

Deleting cookies
Cookies have an expiry date. When the expiry date of a cookie has passed, the cookie is deleted automatically. You can disable or delete cookies manually at any time. For this, consult the help documentation of your browser. In most browsers you will find this option in the settings.

Security
The security of personal data is very important to us. To protect your privacy, we take the following measures:

  • Access to personal data is protected with a username and password
  • We make sure that only the people who need access have access to personal data
  • After receipt, the data is stored in a separate, protected system
  • We use secure connections (Secure Sockets Layer or SSL), which protect all information between you and our website when you enter personal data

Changes to this privacy and cookie statement
If we change the way we process personal data or our cookie policy, we will of course have to update this privacy and cookie statement as well. So always check the date above and look regularly to see whether there are new versions.
